Maria Papadimitriou
Studies painting at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1981 - 1986). From 2001 she teaches visual arts at the Department of Architecture of the University of Thessaly in Volos. In 2002 she creates the non-profit organisation T.A.M.A. (Temporary Autonomous Museum for All), and in 2012 the independent platform Art Canteen Souzy Tros. In 2003 she wins the DESTE prize.
Her practice involves various means of expression: sculpture, installation, video, photography and public art. Via her work, she focuses on issues of identity, social integration and exclusion. Papadimitriou makes interventions in public spaces and in everyday city life, she organises collaborative ventures/actions between residents and artists, with the aim to document and also to improve the living standards of communities that have a long cultural tradition, such as the Roma gypsies.
She has presented her work in many solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad (Tirana Biennale, 2001, Sao Paulo Biennale, 2002, Manifesta 4, Frankfurt, 2002, Thessaloniki Biennale, 2014, Venice Biennale, 2015 et al.).
